South Brazil
In several states of South Brazil there are two planting seasons.
Seasons-south
If only natural ventilated stores are used, the seed from H1 is used in P2 and seed from H2 is used in P3..
With refrigerated stores seed from H1 can be used until P3 and seed from H2 can be stored until P4.
Central Highlands
In the Central Highlands of Brazil there may be only one production season during the winter season and refrigerated stored seed is used from the Southern regions of Brazil harvested in
H2 or H4.

Production seasons and

- seed in reasonable physiological
condition available during short period
- system is less flexible
- risk that seed is stil dormant or to young at desired planting period
- often dormancy breaking needed
Production seasons and refrigerated stores
- seed in good physiological condition available during long period
- system flexible
- risk that seed becomes too old if seed is stored for more than 8-9 months and storage management is poor
Dormancy breaking techniques with CS2 and GA are frequently used. GA is applied as dip or spray, with the risk of spreading bacterial diseases.
Advantages refrigerated store for seed
The use of refrigerated stores results in:
- availability of seed in a better physiological stage
- better adaptation of production seasons to market oportunities
- reduced risks of infection with bacteria
