Internal quality control seed producing organisation
Internal quality control unit
The internal quality control unit of a seed production organization has its tasks:
- to follow through: production, harvest, storage, sorting, packing and distribution
- to provide technical information and to educate the contract growers to become seed farmers
- to supervise selection of fields, production, harvest, grading, sorting and storage
- to inspect seed production fields and seed lots
Responsibility contract growers
The contract grower is responsible for implementation of production procedures. Contract conditions should be favourable for both the seed organization and the contract grower.
Favourable contract conditions are a stimulus for the contract grower to:
- take all measures necessary to produce quality seed
- to strictly implement the contract growers rules
- to continue to be a contract grower
Standards
A seed certification agency may apply minimum standards, while a seed producing organization can use higher quality standards and introduce its own quality label.
Such a label can be of importance, once the seed producing organization has build its reputation as a supplier of quality seed and the label has become a sign of quality.
An internal quality unit with skilled and experienced personnel is essential for the production of quality seed.
Internal quality regulations, quality standards and inspection procedures need to be well documented.
