Tuber size and "marketable yield"
Tuber size is a more important indication of "marketable yield' than the total tuber yield.
Big tubers are required in some markets(French fried), in other markets smaller tubers are preferred are used for consumption and for reproduction (seed potatoes).
Physiological processes and production methods affect tuber quality with regard to tuber size.

These processes take place during both the production season and the storage season.
Tuber size
Several factors factors may influence total yield and marketable yield. (e.g. tuber size, grading of harvested tubers, etc. The factors are presented in a figure which provides a useful guide for analysing a potato crop.
Crop density and yield (length of the production season) are major factors influencing tuber size.
