Some vital statistics
Every year, the Netherlands produces some eight million tonnes of potatoes. About half are ware potatoes, approximately 20% are seed potatoes and the remaining 30% are potatoes grown for starch.
About one million tonnes of potatoes are exported per year. Two and a half million tonnes go to the processing industry, to be processed into a wide range of potato products. The rest are destined for Dutch consumers.
Dutch potatoes are grown in on 175,000 hectares, of which an average of 85,000 ha is used for ware potatoes. About 40.000 hectares is for seed and about 50.000 hectares is for starch potatoes.
